SEEKERS - DOCUMENTARY ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND IRREGULAR MIGRATION - BRIMA A. SHERIFF

https://vimeo.com/700560245 This video (SEEKER) seeks to generate discussions around Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration with a view to raising Awareness Nationally and Internationally. Directed by Brima Abdulai Sheriff and Produced by WeOwn TV. The Sierra Leone Medium Term National Development Plant (MTNDP) dubbed Education for Development has Cluster Six which is about Youth Employment, Sports, and Migration. This Policy Cluster expresses that Migration is an outlet for Sierra Leonean youth to escape from the lack of opportunities besetting them in their communities and the country at large. The policy establishes that the migration situation is underpinned by high levels of poverty and unemployment, especially among youth, women, and vulnerable groups. The policy further states that the context is highly unpredictable due to the lack of reliable and up-to-date labour market data, ineffective communication on employment-related information due to the inadequacy of employment centres, obsolete labour laws, and the not-yet-implemented National Employment Policy. Sierra Leone has not been spared the fatalities of these irregular migrations. Unfortunately, many young people are still being scammed by unsuspecting traffickers who promise fortunes only to have our young people dumber and exposed to the horrors of their tricks. The objective of producing SEEKERS is to provide an opportunity to engage strategically at different levels with especially young people but also in trafficked prone communities with this real stories from those who have experienced trafficking first hand. We hope that it will lead to policy reforms, preventive and punitive enforecment initiavtes by the State. We also hope that communities will pay serious attendtion to potential traffickers but also a mindset shift that will keep our communities safe.
